   He is the Don of Hong Kong. His business covers almost every walk of life in Hong Kong. At an assessed wealth close to $26.5 billion he is one of the richest men in the world and the most powerful men in Asia.

His humble beginning can be traced back to China where he was a refugee’s son. He initially worked as a salesman and started a plastic manufacturing plant in Hong Kong with borrowed money. He started manufacturing plastic flowers. He displayed his business acumen by modernizing the plant and exporting large quantities of plastic flowers. His tryst with destiny had begun. He made a fortune selling plastic flowers.

 In the sixties he invested in real estate in Hong Kong. His company named Cheung Kong, became a financial giant in Hong Kong. After becoming the top real estate developer in Hong Kong, in 1979, Li acquired Hutchison Whampoa Limited, from HSBC. This set up a massive business conglomerate with diversified business interests. The company owned container port facilities around the world, including in Hong Kong, China, UK, Rotterdam, Panama, Bahamas and many developing countries. Hutchison Whampoa Limited controls 13% of all container port capacity in the world today.

The company diversified into telecommunications too and spread all over Asia. Hutchison Essar and Vodafone deal was a landmark sale in telecom industry.

 Besides being rich and famous, Li has won many awards and donates profusely towards charity.
